Apologies for another unexpected break - life got crazy busy with an little softie exhibition I was working on. But I’m back and ready to post up lots of wonderful (and free) softie patterns for you, and just in time for the gift-giving season!

First post for today is this sweet Gulla’alla (Koala) and baby by Coloured Buttons:

This would make for a great Beginner’s project. The shape is easy and simple to work with and the construction is straight-forward.

Etsy’s The Storque brings you a very easy to follow and well illustrated free tutorial on how to recycle one of your knitted gloves into a cutie-pie Chipmunk softie:

The project is from a new book by Miyako Kanamori, published by Penguin, called “Happy Gloves” - which, as the name suggests, is all about making cute little critters from a humble glove. Miyako also authored the popular softie book, “Sock and Glove“.

Thanks to Heather for the link to this very helpful tutorial on making sock monkeys. If you have wanted to make a sock monkey but just can’t seem to get your head around how to actually construct a monkey out of a pair of socks (I admit, it puzzled me for a long while before it finally clicked), you will want to read this tutorial:

Every step is very detailed and well explained, and the accompanying pictures are excellent in terms of providing the necessary guidance (especially if you are visual person). The little guy even has a really cute “tattoo” on his chest:-)

A good project for beginner softie-makers and a good one to use up some scraps too! And what a brilliant name too :-)
