Yes Softie-Makers, it is that time of the year once again - Softies for Mirabel for 2009 has just been launched by Meet Me At Mikes!

This is the third year of this successful appeal. The Mirabel Foundation assists children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care). In a nut-shell, the appeal is asking for you to donate a handmade softie to be sent to Mikes by December 10, 2009. Mikes will then co-ordinate with the Mirabel Foundation to distribute the softies to the children that the Foundation are supporting, just in time for Christmas!
This is a wonderful cause and I do hope you will get involved this year. If you have any questions about the appeal itself, please go over here for all the details. You can also add a picture of your handmade donation to the Softies for Mirabel Flickr Group (and see what others have been making).
And if you need to find a softie to make for the appeal . . . well, that’s what we’re here for!!

The Toy Society is holding a special holiday season event - A Toy Society Christmas. As stated on their website:
“A co-ordinated simultaneous world-wide toy drop the weekend before Christmas. On that weekend a map with drop locations will be uploaded to the blog so you can see where all the Toy Society elves are active. Each toy drop will also then be uploaded to the blog as well as any finder emails.”

Adding to my recent post on Plush Art shows in October, Plush You 2008 is now on at Schmancy in Seattle.

The Softies for Mirabel appeal is hosted by the quintessential hostess with the mostess, Pip of Meet Me At Mikes. The auction component of the appeal is now over but you can still make and donate softies for the Christmas 2008 Appeal.

Go over here for all the FAQs regarding this event including how to donate, where to send your softie, who will receive your softie, and what the Mirabel Foundation is all about. At this stage, if you want to donate to the Christmas Appeal your donation/s will need to be received by the 13th of December.
This is an excellent example of crafting for a cause. And hey - no excuses about not knowing how to make a softie. That is what softiemaking.com is here for! I am sure you will find a softie to make and donate. So get cracking!
